THE SENATE finance committee on Wednesday said government feeding programs should be devolved to local government units (LGUs) for better implementation.听

鈥淭his activity being explained by the National Nutrition Council is an activity which can be done with ease and better coordination by the LGUs,鈥澨齭aid Minority Leader Franklin M. Drilon during the hearing.听鈥淭he National Nutrition Council should just set the policy which the LGUs will follow.鈥澨

Nutrition Council听Executive Director Azucena M. Dayanghirang听said under the听proposed听2022听budget,听a听P210-million supplementation program for nutritionally at-risk pregnant women was not included.听

Ms. Dayanghirang said the plan was to听implement the program with LGUs providing the听transport services.听

The听senators, however,听said听it was better for the LGUs to handle the听entire听job.听鈥淟GUs can do this on a daily basis, a feeding program with better success because they know the people quite well on the ground,鈥澨齅r. Drilon said.听听

Senator Pilar Juliana 鈥淧ia鈥 S. Cayetano听noted that听the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of Education also received budget cuts in听their听feeding programs.听鈥淭here really has to be a limit to what the national (government) can spend and efficiently carry out.鈥澨鈥斕鼳lyssa Nicole O.
