Human trafficking convictions听in 1st听half 2021 down from last听year听听
THE听JUSTICE听department听recorded听25 convictions听on human trafficking听cases听听in听the first half of 2021,听a 73% decrease听from听92 convictions听in the same period听last year.听听
Justice Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay-Villar, however,听said the听data in the department鈥檚 mid-year report听is still expected to听increase听as听鈥渟ome courts don鈥檛 submit data mid-year.鈥澨听
Most courts, she said, send听reports on convictions towards the end of the year.听听听
鈥淪ome even submit very late,鈥澨齅s. Villar said,听citing that the Department of Justice actually听received听some听2020 data just in March this year.听听听
Of听the听25 convictions from Jan. 1 to June 30听this year,听a total of听28听traffickers were involved.听听听听
The number of victims in these cases total听73,听of whom听57听were听minors while 16听were听adults.听听听
In last year鈥檚听92 convictions, a total of 85 human traffickers were imprisoned for victimizing 207 females and 24 males, of听whom听149 were minors and 82 adults.听鈥斕鼴ianca Angelica D.听A帽ago听听
