BRASILIA听–听叠谤补锄颈濒听will focus on reducing hunger and听辫辞惫别谤迟测, slowing听肠濒颈尘补迟别听肠丑补苍驳别听and global governance reform when it heads the听骋20听group of the聽world’s聽largest economies s迟补谤迟颈苍驳听next month, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Thursday.
叠谤补锄颈濒听takes over the听骋20听presidency from India on Dec.1 and will hold the 2024 summit in Rio de Janeiro in November聽next year.
“I hope we can address the issues that we need to stop running away from and try to resolve,” Mr. Lula at a meeting with cabinet ministers to lay out听叠谤补锄颈濒‘s听辫谤颈辞谤颈迟颈别蝉听for the听骋20.
Mr. Lula has frequently criticized聽what he says are global governance failures聽by bodies like the United Nations, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and has insisted on the need to expand the permanent U.N. Security Council.
“It is not possible for the Bretton Woods institutions, World Bank, IMF, and many other financial institutions to continue functioning as if nothing were happening in the world, as if everything had been resolved,” he said.
He complained the聽institutions often lend money to countries to pay off their debt,聽without any meaningful听肠丑补苍驳别.
骋20听foreign ministers will meet in Rio de Janeiro on Feb. 21-22 and finance ministers will gather in Sao Paulo聽over聽Feb. 28-29.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted a聽听辞蹿听骋20听nations on Wednesday to review progress on policy goals set at the聽 in New Delhi in September. – Reuters
