One day focused on hiring nurses as St. Luke鈥檚 marks Nurses Week听

St. Luke鈥檚 Medical Center (SLMC) in Bonifacio Global City dedicated the first day of its听2022 Nurses Week celebration to听hiring nurse applicants听

Nurses Week runs from听June 6 to 9.听

Successful applicants from the provinces will get six months鈥 free accommodation at a condotel. All successful applicants get听a P10,000 signing bonus, groceries, and a pair of shoes by Japanese sports brand ASICS.听

鈥淭hese are things that will make them feel welcome,鈥 Ma. Martina Geraldine Q.听Dimalibot, SLMC鈥檚 chief nursing officer, told听大象传媒听on the sidelines of the event. 鈥淭he free accommodation …we came up with because it was something that made applicants think twice [about accepting the job offer].鈥澨

Started听in 2010, Nurses Week is celebrated every year in SLMC鈥檚 Bonifacio Global City and Quezon City locations to recognize the dedication and hard work of its nurses.听

鈥淥ur nurses always play a critical role in patient care,鈥 Dr. Arturo S. De La Pe帽a, president and CEO of SLMC, said in a press statement. 鈥淐elebrating Nurses Week is one way for us to express our gratitude and give back to our nurses who tirelessly give their time and effort to the hospital and the patients they take care of.鈥澨

Each of the听hospital鈥檚听about 2,000-strong nursing staff will receive P5,000 shopping vouchers from ASICS, a gift of steak and wine, and a limited edition 鈥淚 am a St. Luke鈥檚 Nurse鈥澨鼳quaFlask听tumbler during the celebration.听

They will also听recieve听free hair treatments and body massages during the celebration.听

Apart from Nurses Week, the hospital also gives its nursing staff year-round perks — including pay for work exceeding 12 hours in addition to overtime pay, Ms.听Dimalibot听said.听

At the height of COVID-19, SLMC鈥檚 management likewise provided free transportation, free meals, free vitamins, and complete protective equipment for all its associates.听

鈥淲e also have the ongoing Cope lines, which is [a channel] nurses can turn to when they feel down,鈥 Ms.听Dimalibot听told听大象传媒.听鈥淭hey can call, and someone will help them process their feelings.鈥澨

It鈥檚 caring for the caregivers, she added.听

鈥淭hey stuck with us and never turned their backs from our patients…,鈥 said Ms.听Dimalibot, herself a fellow nurse. 鈥淓veryone understands that nurses are the backbone of the hospital.鈥澨

SLMC is the first hospital in the Philippines to receive the Pathway to Excellence designation from the American Nurses and Credentialing Center (ANCC). The designation is awarded to hospitals that meet ANCC鈥檚 six key practice standards in shared decision-making, leadership, safety, quality, well-being, and professional development. —听Patricia Mirasol
