GoTyme听Bank aims to turn profitable by mid-2027, driven by continued customer growth and ahead of potential entrants in the Philippine digital banking market,听President and听Chief Executive Officer听Nathaniel C. Clarke said.

鈥淲e鈥檙e still prioritizing growth over profitability, but we still think we鈥檒l become profitable in听2027听,鈥 he told reporters.听鈥淎ny new entrants don鈥檛 really change our strategy,鈥 Clarke told reporters听last week. 鈥淥ur focus is to maintain momentum and stay ahead as the fastest-growing bank.鈥

The听Bangko听Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) lifted a three-year moratorium on digital bank licensing in January, allowing up to four听new players听or traditional banks converting to digital operations. Six digital banks听operate听in the Philippines, including听GoTyme, Maya Bank,听Inc.,听Overseas Filipino Bank, Inc., Tonik Digital Bank, Inc.,听UnionDigital听Bank, Inc. and听UNObank, Inc.

Mr.听Clarke said听GoTyme鈥檚听operations are听largely insulated听from interest rate fluctuations, noting that its loan book is short-term with minimal term deposits. 鈥淯nlike traditional banks with longer-dated loans, fluctuations in interest rates don鈥檛 really impact us,鈥 he said.

Customer growth听remains听a key driver of profitability.听GoTyme鈥檚听customer base reached nine million last week, on track to hit 11鈥12 million by year-end. 鈥淲e expect to reach 10 million by mid-year, and close to 12 million if all goes well,鈥澨齅r.听Clarke said.

Bad听loans are projected to stay听at听5%听to听7% for 2026, following a 5.6% level at the end of 2025. Operational efficiency is also improving, with gross profits more than doubling last year,听while operating expenses grew less than 15%.

The bank听posted听a net loss of P3.44 billion in 2024, up from P2.47 billion in 2023,听mainly due to听higher operating costs during its early expansion phase.听Mr.听Clarke said the bank鈥檚 financial trajectory points toward breaking even once the customer base reaches scale.

GoTyme听Bank began operations in October 2022 as a joint venture between the Philippines鈥 Gokongwei group and Singapore-based Tyme Group.听鈥斕Aaron Michael C. Sy
