THEΜύSUPREME Court has convicted a retired employee of theΜύCourt of Appeals (CA) ofΜύcorruptionΜύover herΜύinvolvement in a P10-millionΜύβcase-fixing,βΜύwhereinΜύpaymentΜύwas madeΜύin exchange for court informationΜύinΜύan ongoing case.ΜύΜύΜύ
In the High Courtβs decision promulgated on Aug. 3 and published on Oct. 14, it said the respondent, Imelda V. Posadas, knewΜύβthat a review of the case meant that a decision of acquittal is being sought and that the accused was willing to pay to secure such a ruling.βΜύΜύΜύ
Ms. PosadasΜύdefendedΜύthat she acted in good faith as sheΜύβwas merely motivated by a sincere desire to help.βΜύTheΜύSupreme Court, however, held that Ms. PosadasΜύβhad an indispensable involvement in the dealings.βΜύΜύΜύ
Two others involved in the case have also been penalized, one a lawyer who has been disbarred and a Supreme Court employee whoΜύwas dismissed from service.ΜύΜύΜύ
Ms. Posadasβs retirementΜύbenefitsΜύhave been forfeited, except for accrued leave benefits.ΜύShe has also been barred from government service.ΜύβΜύBianca Angelica D.ΜύAΓ±agoΜύΜύ
