MWSS suspends water disconnection during听2-week lockdown听
THE REGULATORY office of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) has suspended all water service disconnection activities听during the two-week lockdown in the capital region from Aug. 6 to 20.听听听
MWSS Chief Regulator Patrick Lester N. Ty said Metro Manila鈥檚 two water concessionaires, Manila Water Co., Inc. and Maynilad Water Services, Inc.,听have been ordered not to听disconnect customers with arrears听and to ensure water supply availability within their respective service areas.听听听听
鈥淭he MWSS-RO has directed Manila Water and Maynilad to suspend all service disconnection activities, whether temporary or permanent, for the duration of the ECQ听(enhanced community quarantine)听period,鈥澨齅r. Ty said in a statement on Wednesday.听听听听听
Mr. Ty听also听appealed to local government units in Metro Manila听and the neighboring provinces of听Cavite and Rizal to听allow听the meter readers of the two water concessionaires听to carry on with听their on-site water meter reading and billing operations during the ECQ.听听听听
He said the continuation of water reading and billing operations will allow the water concessionaires to charge customers based on actual water consumption and help reduce complaints听arising from the use of听average consumption听as basis.听听听听
