Putin says West cannot have monopoly on AI, calls for boost to Russian efforts

MOSCOW听–听President Vladimir听笔耻迟颈苍听on Friday warned that the听奥别蝉迟听should not be allowed to develop a听尘辞苍辞辫辞濒测听in the sphere of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and said that a much more ambitious听搁耻蝉蝉颈补苍听strategy for the development of听础滨听would be approved shortly.
China and the United States are leading the development of听础滨, which many researchers and global leaders think will transform the world and revolutionize society in a way similar to the introduction of computers in the late 20th century.
Moscow also has ambitions to be an听础滨听power but its听别蹿蹿辞谤迟蝉听丑补惫别听been set back due to the war in Ukraine which prompted many talented scientists to leave Russia and triggered听奥别蝉迟ern sanctions which听丑补惫别听hindered the country’s high-tech imports.
Speaking to an听础滨听conference in Moscow beside Sberbank CEO German Gref, Mr. Putin said that trying to ban听础滨听was impossible and cautioned that it would be dangerous and unacceptable to allow听奥别蝉迟ern platforms to gain a听尘辞苍辞辫辞濒测听in听础滨听technology.
“In the very near future, as one of the first steps, a presidential decree will be signed and a new version of the national strategy for the development of artificial intelligence will be approved,” Mr. Putin聽told the conference.
Mr. Putin聽said the new strategy would make significant changes, including “expanding fundamental and applied research in the field of generative artificial intelligence and large language models”.
Russia, he said, needed to make legislative and investment changes to spur the development of听础滨. – Reuters
