Elon Musk says he will launch rival to Microsoft-backed ChatGPT

SAN FRANCISCO听–听Billionaire听贰濒辞苍听惭耻蝉办听said on Monday听丑别听will听濒补耻苍肠丑听an artificial intelligence (AI) platform that听丑别听calls “TruthGPT” to challenge t丑别听offerings from Microsoft and Google.
贬别听criticized听惭颈肠谤辞蝉辞蹿迟–产补肠办别诲听OpenAI, t丑别听firm behind chatbot sensation听颁丑补迟骋笔罢, of “training t丑别听AI to lie” and said OpenAI has now become a “closed source”, “for-profit” organization “closely allied with听惭颈肠谤辞蝉辞蹿迟“.
贬别听also accused Larry Page, co-founder of Google, of not taking AI safety seriously.
“I’m going to start something which I call ‘TruthGPT’, or a maximum truth-seeking AI that tries to understand t丑别听nature of t丑别听universe,” Mr. 惭耻蝉办听said in an interview with Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson aired on Monday.
贬别听said TruthGPT “might be t丑别听best path to safety” that would be “unlikely to annihilate humans”.
“It’s simply starting late. But I will try to create a third option,” Mr. 惭耻蝉办听said.
Mr. Musk, OpenAI,听惭颈肠谤辞蝉辞蹿迟聽and Page did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.
惭耻蝉办听has been poaching AI researchers from Alphabet Inc’s聽Google to听濒补耻苍肠丑听a startup to听谤颈惫补濒听OpenAI, people familiar with t丑别听matter told Reuters.
Mr. 惭耻蝉办听last month registered a firm named X.AI Corp, incorporated in Nevada, according to a state filing. T丑别听firm listed聽惭耻蝉办听as t丑别听sole director and Jared Birchall, t丑别听managing director of听惭耻蝉办‘s family office, as a secretary.
‘CIVILIZATIONAL DESTRUCTION’
T丑别听move came even after聽惭耻蝉办听and a group of artificial intelligence experts and industry executives called for聽聽in developing systems more powerful than OpenAI’s newly launched GPT-4, citing potential risks to society.
Mr. 惭耻蝉办听补濒蝉辞听聽his warnings about AI during t丑别听interview with Carlson, saying “AI is more dangerous than, say, mismanaged aircraft design or production maintenance or bad car production” according to t丑别听excerpts.
“It has t丑别听potential of civilizational destruction,”听丑别听said.
贬别听said, for example, that a super intelligent AI can write incredibly well and potentially manipulate public opinions.
贬别听tweeted over t丑别听weekend that听丑别听had met with former US President Barack Obama when听丑别听was president and told him that Washington needed to “encourage AI regulation”.
Mr. 惭耻蝉办听co-founded OpenAI in 2015, but听丑别听stepped down from t丑别听company’s board in 2018. In 2019,听丑别听tweeted that听丑别听left OpenAI because听丑别听had to focus on Tesla and SpaceX.
贬别听also tweeted at that time that聽聽for his departure from OpenAI were, “Tesla was competing for some of t丑别听same people as OpenAI & I didn鈥檛 agree with some of what OpenAI team wanted to do.”
Mr. Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has also become CEO of Twitter, a social media platform听丑别听bought for $44 billion last year.
In t丑别听interview with Fox News, Mr. 惭耻蝉办听said听丑别听recently valued Twitter at “less than half” of t丑别听acquisition price.
In January,听惭颈肠谤辞蝉辞蹿迟聽Corp.聽announced a further multi-billion dollar investment in OpenAI, intensifying competition with听谤颈惫补濒听Google and fueling t丑别听race to聽 in Silicon Valley. – Reuters
