FOOTBALL (SOCCER),听basketball, boxing, and volleyball听top the list of听popular听pandemic exercises on video-sharing platform听TikTok,听according to a听May 2021听study by听meta-search website听听
听The list of exercises was generated through Apple Watch usage and their popularity was ranked based on听Tiktok听hashtag views worldwide recorded on May 10. Excluded were those with inaccurate price information听鈥听how much one has to invest to do these exercises (excluding trainer fees)听鈥听and those that were irrelevant to the听Southeast Asian听market (such as snowboarding). The number of calories burned by each exercise per hour was taken from the fitness app MyFitnessPal.听Data on price were taken from听iPrice鈥檚听database of 6 billion products.听
听According to听iPrice, the top four exercises on the list are 鈥渘ot COVID safe鈥澨鈥听although this categorization is based on听the competitive definition of the sport and not听the听TikTok听videos, which include pandemic-friendly variations (such as juggling a football alone in your backyard).听
Competitive听football, basketball, and boxing involve contact;听volleyball is played indoors, with a shared ball.听听
听Seven out of听the听twelve听exercises听that听make up听the list, meanwhile,听were classified 鈥淐OVID safe鈥 by听iPrice.听Of these safe exercises, running, cycling, and tennis burn the most calories.听听These exercises听were deemed safer than others because they are听individual activities听(with the exception of tennis), that are听non-contact, and done outside (for the most part).听
Meanwhile,听badminton听(ranked 11听in popularity)听is a听gray area since听it is played on courts that are听smaller than tennis courts, with some located in enclosed, air-conditioned quarters.听
