THE Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, under maestro Yoshikazu Fukumura, will have eight concerts for its 2018-2019 season 鈥 its 36th.
鈥 Sept. 14, Main Theater, Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) 鈥 French pianist Monique Dupil opens the season as a soloist. Program includes Greeting Prelude (Happy Birthday), G. Rossini鈥檚 Semiramide Overture, Johann Bach鈥檚 Sinfonia in Bb, and Ravel鈥檚 Piano Concerto in G major.
鈥 Oct. 12, CCP Main Theater 鈥 Violinist Lee Chin Siow is the soloist in the concert. The program includes Berlioz鈥 Le Corsaire Overture, M. Bruch鈥檚 Violin Concerto no. 1 op. 26 G minor, and P.I. Tchaikovsky鈥檚 Symphony no. 4 op. 36, F minor.
鈥 Nov. 15, Manila Cathedral, Intramuros, Manila 鈥 Japanese violinist Ryu Goto will perform with PPO at this special concert whose program includes Vivaldi鈥檚 The Four Seasons and A. Dvorak鈥檚 Symphony no. 8 op. 88 G minor.
鈥 Dec. 14, CCP Main Theater 鈥 Filipino violinist Joaquin Gutierrez performs with the PPO under the baton of PPO associate conductor Herminigildo G. Ranera. The program includes Mozart鈥檚 Violin Concerto, E. Humperdick鈥檚 Hansel and Gretel Prelude to Act One, Tchaikovsky鈥檚 The Nutcracker Suite, and Christmas music.
鈥 Jan. 18, 2019, CCP Main Theater 鈥 Filipina pianist Hiyas Hila performs with the PPO. The program includes R. Wagner鈥檚 Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg Prelude, Beethoven鈥檚 Symphony no. 7 op. 92 A major, and Schumann鈥檚 Piano Concerto.
鈥 Feb. 8, CCP Main Theater 鈥 Hungarian pianist and conductor Tam谩s V谩s谩ry will lead the PPO in performing Chopin鈥檚 Andante spianato, Mozart鈥檚 Symphony no. 39 K. 543, e-flat major, and Kodaly鈥檚 Variations on a Hungarian Folk song.
鈥 March 15, CCP Main Theater 鈥 Cellist Ray Wang performs with the PPO in a program that includes Toshiro Mayuzumi鈥檚 Bacchanale, R. Schumann鈥檚 Cello Concerto op. 129 A major, and Tchaikovsky鈥檚 Symphony no. 6 op. 64 E minor.
鈥 April 12, CCP Main Theater 鈥 To conclude the season, Japanese guitarist Kiyoshi Shomura performs with the PPO in program including F. Mendelssohn鈥檚 Symphony no. 4 op. 90, A major, I. Stravinsky鈥檚 The Rite of Spring, and Castelnuovo-Tedesco鈥檚 Guitar Concerto no. 1.
