HK to give away 30,000 free air tickets to PHL passengers聽

HONG KONG announced on Wednesday that it will be giving away 30,000 round-trip tickets to tourists from the Philippines.
鈥淔ilipinos love聽visiting聽Hong聽Kong聽and we expect this tourism campaign to聽encourage聽this important market聽to聽continue visiting us,鈥 Vivian Cheung, chief operation officer of聽the聽Airport Authority Hong Kong聽(AAHK),聽told reporters.听聽
To avail of the tickets, Philippine-based travelers must sign up on the websites of Cathay Pacific, which will handle 20,400 of the flights聽allocated聽to the country, and of Hong Kong Airlines, which will handle the聽remainder.听
The campaign will start on March 3 at 12:00聽noon on a first come, first served basis.听
鈥淭icket distribution will continue for 6 months, and the flights will have to be within the next 9 months. The good news is, there are no blackout dates for this campaign, so you can book聽as long as聽there are available flights,鈥 Ms. Cheung said.听
The free tickets were sponsored by AAHK in 2020 as part of a pandemic relief package for Hong Kong鈥檚 aviation industry, providing liquidity support to the home-based carriers with a plan for airlines to use the tickets to promote traffic recovery post-pandemic.听
Donald Morris, country manager of Cathay Pacific Philippines, said聽that all those interested should sign up聽on聽the website before March 3, which will聽likely see聽aspiring travelers stuck on a loading page as the campaign starts.听
Sign-ups will be open for a week after March 3, after which the winners will be notified.听Winners聽will聽also receive聽special offers聽for hotel accommodation, shopping, and entertainment from AAHK鈥檚 business partners.听
Ms. Cheung聽said聽that聽the聽Hong Kong International Airport was continuously refurbished even during the pandemic.听
New services and facilities include聽the聽200-meter聽airside footbridge聽Sky Bridge,聽the renovated聽luxury shopping zone at Terminal 1, and smart technologies聽like facial recognition聽and touchless聽arrival and聽departure聽points throughout the airport.听
鈥淲e are the third busiest international airport,鈥 she said. 鈥淲e expect by end of this year 80% of travel will come back.鈥澛
Aside from a third runway to accommodate even more cargo and passengers,聽the airport鈥檚 commercial area聽SKYCITY,聽composed of hotels, restaurants, entertainment and conference venues, and a concert arena, is also being developed.听
