A SCENE from the film The Batman

LONDON 鈥 Robert Pattinson used to dress up as Batman his 鈥渆ntire childhood,鈥 he said. Now the British actor is about to debut his version of the caped crusader in the latest movie about the DC Comics superhero.

鈥淭his is bizarre to me,鈥 Mr. Pattinson, 35, said on the red carpet for a London screening of The Batman on Wednesday. 鈥淚鈥檇 be so curious what my childhood self would think of this.鈥

Mr. Pattinson, who rose to global fame with the Twilight movies, follows in the footsteps of Adam West, Val Kilmer, Michael Keaton, Christian Bale, and more recently Ben Affleck among others, to play Bruce Wayne/Batman.

鈥淚 mean the legacy of the actors who played (Batman), they鈥檝e all been such massive parts of my life and my interest in film and why I wanted to be an actor in the first place,鈥 Mr. Pattinson said.

鈥淚t鈥檚 just incredible to be a part of the same coterie,鈥 he said, noting that acting with a mask on was 鈥渟urprisingly difficult.鈥

鈥淚 grew up on Adam West (playing Batman). I think my costume when I was a kid was an Adam West one.鈥

In the movie, Batman investigates corruption in Gotham following the murders of several of senior figures by sadistic serial killer, the Riddler.

鈥淭here are great Batman movies and it鈥檚 a character that everyone loves … so for me you don鈥檛 approach it without a heavy dose of terror,鈥 director Matt Reeves said.

鈥淚n certain ways it鈥檚 a psychological horror movie, it鈥檚 a thriller, it鈥檚 a serial killer movie and it鈥檚 also a kind of a grand love story.鈥

The cast also includes Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis and Paul Dano. Zo毛 Kravitz plays Selina Kyle/Catwoman.

鈥淢att … really wanted to explore Selina as a three-dimensional human being and to meet her so early in the story before she鈥檚 Catwoman is something we haven鈥檛 necessarily seen before,鈥 Ms. Kravitz said.

The Batman begins its global rollout from March 1. 鈥 Reuters
